The pots are made in a shed at the top of my garden from Keulper sanded red clay fired first to 1000.C then glazed three times using brush on glazes from Mayco. These are then fired to 1180.C with a 10 minute soak. I found that firing up to this temperature just about produces the dark colour of the clay which outdoor much bloating (if I’m lucky!). The glazes just about take this temperature although I’ve had to experiment as some are better at coping with these temperatures than others. The pencil lines are made at the bisque fired stage with pencil glaze.
I try to work with the pot shapes to fit the design to each one.
